Orange Eye Black Devil / OE Black King Kong Extreme (Caridina cf. cantonensis var. “Orange Eye Black Devil”)

Appearance: An opaque, midnight-black shell with vivid orange-to-yellow eyes. Under some lighting, deep blue or violet undertones shimmer beneath the black. Females are slightly larger, with fuller coverage.

Care: Intermediate to advanced. They need precise, soft, acidic water and a mature tank. See the Caridina Care Basics box above for our exact parameters (RO water with a GH-only remineralizer over active soil). Leaf litter, cholla wood, and dense moss help with molting and stress. They grow to 1–1.2 inches, live 1.5–2 years, and are confident at feeding time.

Breeding: Once settled, they breed true, and the shrimplets hatch with the same dark bodies and orange eyes.
